Photographing Official Ceremonies
Janusz Wójtowicz
Photographing official events is closely tied to the "decisive moment." A photojournalist must be able to intuitively anticipate events so that at that very moment (and not a fraction of a second before or after), they can capture it in the frame.
To emphasize the emotions of the photographed scenes, the photojournalist has a full range of expressive means at their disposal. A short lens accentuates selected elements of the image, while a standard lens is similar to the eye`s vision, making the image most realistic. Long lenses allow for capturing fine details, such as facial expressions.
Long exposure times enable the registration of movement dynamics. Such work presents new challenges every day. The photojournalist must be able to adapt to every new situation they find themselves in.
The photographer is both part of and not part of the photographed event; that is, while in the place of taking the picture, they must not become its hero and disrupt the course of the event.
